Pocketful Of People Live Online Class with Gwen Lafleur

In an effort to help out independent craft stores and also continue to provide access to social distancing-friendly live mixed media classes, I've partnered with Papercraft Clubhouse in Westbrook, CT to bring you a Live Online workshop offered via private Facebook group.

Class Description:
Pocketful of People is a hybrid live / online class with a Facebook community for sharing, questions, and feedback. During this workshop, we'll use my new EGL09 Tribal Faces stamp set from PaperArtsy (or other face stamps or motifs of your choice) and mix them with stamps, stencils, and cut-out shapes to create fantastically whimsical art dolls to live in a pocket in your art journal, on a canvas or on another substrate. (Or you can skip the pocket and just make art dolls, or even totems or a Pocketful of Posies!)

I'll provide a bonus live video and demo to discuss shape and form and how to select and create images for your projects. I'll also demo and give ideas and alternatives for other faces or motifs to use and ideas for coloring your images as you select supplies and do the class pre-work to get ready for the official live class on June 13.

Technical Requirements:

  • You must have a Facebook account - it's the only way we can admit you to the private Facebook classroom
  • Your computer or device should be capable of viewing video with a strong enough internet connection to stream the lesson
  • Check ahead of time to ensure that you can hear and see videos on Facebook (you usually need to both click into a live video and unmute it in order to hear and read and add comments.)
  • I highly recommend that if you don't already have it, that you download the Facebook app on your phone or device and get logged in and set up. This will make it so you can easily take in-progress photos to post for feedback directly from the app.

Administrative Details & Class Policies:

  • Unfortunately, because this is an online class where you can view the content and have full access even if you miss the livestream (which will be archived in the group,) there are no cancellations or refunds.
  • I usually bring a fair amount of products and goodies to my classes for students to use. However since this is an online class, we just want to make sure it's clear that aside from the downloads posted in the Facebook group, you'll be responsible for providing all of your own supplies (please see the supply list above.) I've tried to give lots of options and alternatives so that you can pull from your stash wherever possible. Papercraft Clubhouse also has most of the supplies available in their shop so if you have something you need or see something that you want to try, I hope you'll help support the store. (And contact the shop if you need something that isn't linked - they may have it!)
  • Registration is now open; students will be added to the Facebook group beginning on May 18, 2020
  • The coupon from Papercraft Clubhouse will be given in the Facebook group and available after you've been added.

Because this is a virtual class students must provide all their own supplies.

Student Supply List
Tools

  • Stamps or images to use as the faces or focal points for your art dolls or totems, etc... (I'll be using my brand new EGL09 "Tribal Faces" stamp set from PaperArtsy, but I'll also share ideas for several options and alternatives in the group.)
  • Stamps and / or stencils in a variety of shapes and motifs to create your parts - I'll give you options and talk about ways to look at your tools in a new way to find great parts for your project. You can also create your own art parts - we'll discuss that too. (I'll be using my stamps from PaperArtsy plus a few others and my stencils from StencilGirl.)
